Transfer / Withdraw from GRRSP or GTFSA

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Now that you've left your company, you have options for what happens to your GRRSP and GTFSA assets.

GRRSP – Stay with LINK via the MyLink Loyalty Plan

If you hold a GRRSP, you now have the option to stay with LINK after leaving your employer. You will automatically be moved to the MyLink Loyalty Plan 15 days after your employment ends, and you will continue to be invested in your current portfolio. No action is required on your part to take advantage of this option.

If you would prefer to transfer or withdraw your GRRSP funds instead, you can do so using the steps below.

GTFSA

GTFSA account assets may be transferred – with no taxable implications – to another financial institution. Cash withdrawals may also be available where permitted.

To complete a tax-free transfer:

  1. Go to the financial institution you wish to transfer your LINK account to. They will provide you with the required documents to complete (T2033).

    • You will need to provide your financial institution with your LINK account information. You can find this by logging into the LINK Portal. Go to the “Information” section on the right-hand side and make note of your Plan Name, Plan Number, and Registration (if applicable).

    • Fill out these documents, and ask your financial institution to fax them to LINK Investment Management Inc. at +1 (403) 264-4378.

  2. LINK will receive the documents from your financial institution and make the transfer within a 2 to 4 week timeframe upon receipt of completed documents.

Please note Transfers are subject to fees.

To initiate a withdrawal, subject to withholding taxes, follow these steps:

  1. Login to the Link Portal/Dashboard.

  2. Select "Money Movement" from the main navigation menu.

  3. Select the plan you wish to withdraw in cash.

  4. Select Money Movement type, “Withdrawal”.

  5. Select a Transaction Type, choose, “Cash Withdrawal”.

  6. Select "Use all available amounts".

  7. Choose the delivery method from the drop-down, select either “Cheque” or “EFT”

    • For Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), enter your bank account information.

  8. Once the amount is selected, you will see an estimation of your net proceeds (after with withholding taxes and fees).

  9. Click "Make Transaction" to confirm the withdrawal.

  10. Complete the withdrawal form with your e-signature.

    • Note: it's best to use a computer with Google Chrome, as this signature step may not work when using a cell phone, iPhone or tablet.

Please note Withdrawals are subject to taxes and/or fees. The timeline for withdrawals is 2 to 4 weeks.
